Supporting Research Organizations

The Center for Resilient Communities (CRC) was established in 2014 to address the social, economic and environmental issues that affect the resilience of communities in Idaho and the Western United States through the co-production of knowledge based on collaborative interdisciplinary research, and the development and application of social-ecological systems science.

Support from the NSF has advanced our interdisciplinary research on climate, environmental change, community resilience, and human/environment interactions. Our work integrates climate and geospatial data, community surveys, and spatial modeling to better understand how environmental change is experienced and perceived across rural communities and how those communities respond to emerging climate-related challenges.

Support from the NIH has advanced our research in population health and spatial health modeling. Through projects including Modeling Idaho Health and collaborations with the Institute for Modeling Collaboration and Innovation (IMCI), we have used large public-health datasets, geospatial analysis, and statistical modeling to examine geographic variation in health, health behaviors, and environmental and social factors affecting communities.
